St-Hyacinthe, January 14, 2011 – Energotest consumption test results performed last September with the all new ELCARGO Multi-Flip mechanized tarp system showed fuel savings of 8.80% with the bin covered when compared to consumption obtained when the bin was not covered with the Multi-Flip system. These tests were conducted last September at the fifth edition of Energotest at the Transport Canada Motor Vehicle Test Centre at Blainville.
The main purpose of the ELCARGO Multi-Flip system is to protect goods inside the tipping bin with its waterproof tarp and to facilitate opening and closing it safely, thanks to its simple and effective mechanical operation. The tarp also reduces the vehicle's aerodynamic drag when the bin is empty.
Test results were more than conclusive and the company can now confirm that use of its mechanized tarp systems can result in fuel savings of around 9%.
To this is added recognition of the ELCARGO technology by the Programme d’aide à l’amélioration de l’efficacité énergétique dans le transport des marchandises [Assistance program for improving freight transportation energy efficiency] by the Ministère des Transports du Québec. This recognition allows carriers to apply for a grant of up to $1,500.00 towards the cost of purchase and installation of an ELCARGO tarp system.
"Profitability of our mechanized tarp systems was already excellent, thanks to fuel savings", said Réal Royer. "But with this grant, carriers and truckers no longer have any reason not to take advantage of an ELCARGO mechanized system."
For 10 years, ELCARGO mechanized tarp systems, made in Quebec, have demonstrated their strength and reliability. Energotest 2009 and 2010 test results clearly showed the savings and profitability of ELCARGO mechanized tarp systems, confirming that together with protection of the environment and recognition by the energy efficiency improvement program, they are an effective way to reduce fuel consumption while reducing emission of pollutants.
ElCargo mechanized tarp systems are the only systems to have their eco-environmental performance scientifically documented as part of the most recent Energotests. The fuel economy performance tests, conducted by the independent firm FPInnovations last September on the Transport Canada track at Blainville, have demonstrated that ELCARGO systems can help achieve fuel savings of 14.93% for open top trailers and 8.80% for the Multi-Flip.
